What this website is and is not.

What this content is and is not

Everything clinical on this site is general information. It is written for a broad audience, reviewed before publication, and cannot substitute for assessment of you as an individual.

It cannot be used to diagnose, to decide treatment, or to conclude that you do or do not need medical attention. Where a page describes what we would typically do, that describes a typical case rather than yours.

In an emergency, do not use this website

Sudden weakness on one side of the body, facial droop, sudden difficulty speaking, sudden severe headache, chest pain, breathlessness at rest, loss of bladder or bowel control with leg weakness, or a hot swollen painful joint with fever all require emergency medical care.

Call your local emergency number. Do not wait for a reply to an enquiry made through this site.

Where we deliberately say what is uncertain

Several pages state that the evidence for a treatment is weak or mixed, and some say plainly that we recommend trying something else first. That is intentional.

We do not publish success rates. Rehabilitation outcomes depend on diagnosis, severity, starting level and goal, and a single percentage across a mixed population is a marketing number rather than a clinical one.

Reviewing and correcting content

Clinical pages carry a review date. Where a physician has formally reviewed a page, their name appears on it; a clinician's name is never added to a page they have not reviewed.

If you believe something here is wrong or out of date, tell us. Corrections are made and the review date updated.

Where to next

Talk to someone before you decide

Four ways to reach the international office, depending on where you are. Nothing here commits you to treatment — a second opinion, a video consultation and a written plan are all free, and you can start with a question.
